Lipu Nature Trail
A nature trail located in the Hotel surroundings was established jointly with LIPU, the Italian Association concerned with the protection of birds. The trail encompasses 20.000 sqm. of the estate and features a pristine and well preserved natural environment. Useful signs placed along the path provide useful information about the incredible variety of plant and animal species living within the area.
The itinerary starts at the Village’s Lake Garden and winds along beside the hotel, reaching the shoreline as final destination. A typical Mediterranean vegetation grows in the area, notably shade trees with tall trunks like Canarian and St. Peter palms, local pine trees, mimosa, eucalyptus and others. The canopy of leaves offers relief from the hot sun and helps clean the air. Moreover, the vegetation provides birds and other animal species with a safe refugee.
The park hosts an incredible array of bird species, which are also attracted to the area by plants like anemone, clover, fennel, cardamom, radish, wild geranium, narcissi, daisy, taraxacum, calendula, heather and many other flowering and green plants. As you wander through the vegetation, you are likely to spot a wide variety of birds, such as the magpie, mockingbird, greenfinch, hoopoe, kestrel, owl, turtledove, titmice, high flying peregrine falcon, buzzard, as well as seabirds like tern, grey heron and stork. Apart from birds, the area is also home to mammals like hedgehogs, moles, stone martens, weasels, foxes and squirrels, and numerous insects like butterflies, mantis, cicadas, crickets, grasshoppers. Frogs and toads are also present.
